Wouldn’t it be great if what I ‘thought’, was what people could see and then communication would be easy? Of course what I think and what people see are two different things. My first ten years of Aikido learning has been mostly under the umbrella of
Morihiro Saito Sensei’s technique and in my mind I’ve endeavoured to mimic his movement especially having attended four of his seminars here in Sydney in those ten years.
As a fly-in instructor at a dojo where the students are of a generation after 2002 and the passing of Saito Sensei, it was a great surprise after showing
some old Saito Sensei video that the students were amused to at last discover why my Aikido looked so different and where my style came from.
After all this time I thought we were doing the same Aikido. Well in my mind at least we have been.
